Under this update, USCIS will collect and use more recent and higher-quality photographs for certain applications to ensure that an applicant’s identity can be accurately verified throughout the immigration process. The agency explained that relying on up-to-date photos reduces the risk of identity mismatches, document fraud, and misuse of immigration benefits.
As a result of this change, some applicants may be asked to submit new photos or have their photograph taken again at a biometrics appointment or interview, even if photos were previously provided. USCIS emphasized that this policy supports stronger security and program integrity and may be applied at multiple stages of a case. Applicants should follow photo instructions carefully and expect additional identity checks as part of normal processing.
