As of April 27, 2026, reports indicate that USCIS may be placing a broad range of cases on hold while implementing a new security vetting process.
USCIS field and asylum offices have reportedly informed applicants and attorneys that adjudications—including adjustment of status and asylum cases, and potentially others—are being paused. This appears to be tied to a new requirement that most pending cases undergo updated fingerprint-based background checks, even where biometrics were previously submitted.
This development could result in significant processing delays across multiple immigration benefit categories. At this time, the full scope and duration of the impact remain unclear.
We are closely monitoring this situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
