On June 4, 2025, President Trump issued a new presidential proclamation that reinstates broad travel restrictions, barring entry from 12 countries and imposing additional visa limitations on 7 others. The measure, aimed at national security, takes effect June 9 and targets individuals who are currently outside the U.S. and do not hold a valid visa.
The full travel ban applies to nationals of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Meanwhile, citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will face partial restrictions on select immigrant and non-immigrant visa categories, including tourist, student, and exchange visas.
The order includes exemptions for lawful permanent residents, dual nationals, diplomats, adopted children, and individuals holding certain visas issued before the effective date. Immigration advocates and international leaders have raised concerns over the policy’s humanitarian and diplomatic implications.
