USCIS has opened a new asylum office in San Antonio, Texas, to expand its capacity to conduct affirmative asylum interviews. Effective May 28, 2026, individuals who have filed affirmative asylum applications and reside within the jurisdiction of the Houston Asylum Office may be scheduled for interviews at either the Houston or the new San Antonio office.

The additional location is intended to increase interview capacity and improve the efficiency of asylum processing within the region. While this operational change does not affect asylum eligibility or adjudication standards, applicants should carefully review their interview notices, as the designated interview location may now be either Houston or San Antonio.
