USCIS has implemented several significant form changes in recent weeks, some with little or no transition period.

Forms now required

  • August 31, 2026: new editions of Forms I-864, I-864A, and I-864EZ became mandatory, without a grace period.
  • September 18, 2026: new editions of Form I-485, Supplement A, Supplement J, Form I-945, and Form I-356 became required, and older editions are no longer accepted.

Revisions that did not take effect

The previously announced September 15 revisions to Forms I-539 and I-765 did not take effect after a federal court blocked implementation of the related Duration of Status rule.

Proposed revisions to watch

USCIS has also published proposed revisions to additional forms, including Form I-751 and Forms I-526/I-526E. Those proposed revisions are not yet mandatory.

Applicants and practitioners should carefully verify the current edition date before submitting any USCIS filing.
