Visa Options for Immigrants Not Selected in the H-1B Lottery

The H-1B lottery results for 2025 were announced on March 31.

For those not selected, additional opportunities may still arise, as USCIS has conducted second and even third rounds of selections in previous years. In the meantime, individuals may consider other options: STEM graduates may apply for a 24-month OPT extension; some may change status to F-1, B-2, or H-4, depending on eligibility; cap-exempt H-1B petitions through universities, nonprofits, or research organizations remain available; individuals with extraordinary abilities can explore the O-1 visa; and others may pursue employment abroad for future eligibility under the L-1 visa category. Each situation is unique, and careful planning is advised to maintain lawful status and future immigration options.
